DOMINANT THOUGHTS: They Have A Powerful Sense of Direction

Every athlete wants to perform their best in competitions. So why don’t they? Before you can expect to use ALL of your current training, on demand, in competitions, before you can display ALL of your skills and properly execute strategies to use those learned skills in competitions, and before you can begin to expect consistent and complete performances in competitions, you will need to learn the art of relaxation to calm your body and mind. Once relaxed, you will need to train to be more aware of the thoughts of your mind and develop the ability to redirect your thoughts; to develop mind sets that align and agree with your goals and dreams.

If you want to start having better results in your performances, your career, and in your life… make a quality decision to spend time learning about your unique self and what really makes you tick. Learn how your mind prefers to work and how you can develop your mind and use mental skills to be in harmony with universal principles and laws, instead of unknowingly continue to fight up stream against these laws of nature. Your thoughts are a power. And it’s imperative to understand the Power of Thought. Each of your thoughts carry an energy source and a specific frequency or vibration. The particular thought will determine the amount of power being generated. It might be easier to understand this concept when you think of ‘body language’. When someone’s body expresses confidence or insecurity or fear, it all started with their thinking and the emotions attached to those thoughts. This also affects the self-center, but I will talk about that at a later time. How you think of yourself and how you feel about yourself being in a certain situation or performing a specific activity will determine how effective you are at expressing yourself. And your expression of your thoughts and feelings comes through your body. The power of the expression didn’t initiate with the body; it started with your thoughts and the emotions you attach to the thoughts. The body really has no choice but to cooperate with the mind and express itself according to your thoughts. So what are you usually thinking about? What do you think about most? And what do you feel strongly about? They become your most Dominant Thoughts.Your Dominate Thoughts have power; and a powerful sense of direction. You will always gravitate or move in the direction of the thoughts you think about the most. Let’s delve into the area of the mind and spend some time examining how what goes on in your mind actually has a key effect on what goes on…in your life.

One of the most crucial principles or concepts that you can ever understand about your mind is: Who you are today, what you are doing today, and how you do what you’re doing today, is a direct result of the accumulation of all of your past and present thoughts, words, and experiences. In fact, most of your thoughts to this point in your life have centered on improving yourself in sports. Within the example of tennis development, these tennis-related thoughts become dominant or reoccurring thoughts. It’s these dominant thoughts and experiences that accumulate to form beliefs. One will only do what one currently believes they are empowered to do. Think about that for a moment. If you believe that to be true…then the accumulations of all your past and current thoughts, words, and experiences have formed your current belief system. You will only be comfortable doing what you believe you are empowered to do. If you want to raise your level of performance, you will have to raise the level of your comfort zone. Many of your current beliefs were instilled in you when you were very young and didn’t really have any say in the matter. The good news is that many of your current beliefs are very good and produce healthy, productive, and winning patterns that continue to help your reach your goals and dreams. However, some of your past thoughts and experiences have also caused you to form faulting beliefs. And it’s these faulting beliefs that have produced unproductive, unhealthy, and losing habits and patterns that are now limiting your current development progress and keeping you from reaching your future dreams and goals. If you give it some thought in this area, I’m sure you can come up with a few habits and patterns that you would like to change or reverse. Your thoughts and words are containers of creative power that shape and determine your mental and emotional state of being. Your thoughts, words, and actions of the past have determined your present reality. Likewise, your thoughts, words, and actions today will determine the positive or negative “patterns” of your future realities and outcomes. When you take the time to learn to identify and understand mental and “spiritual” or “unseen” patterns and aspects of your life, and how they are connected to the current circumstances in your life, you will start taking ownership of your daily thoughts, words and actions. You can then direct and unify them in the direction of your goals and dreams. This is called harmonizing or in other words - peace. Not everyone has knowledge of these universal laws and how they can work with them. Some people think before they speak while others seem to speak before they think. However, both camps must follow a universal law or principle that states: “Whatever I think about, I will move towards that thought”.

Years ago, we changed the thinking and speaking in our house from negative to positive. This change was met with resistance at first, but eventually the positive thinking and speaking started manifesting positive behavior changes. Everyone started to see positive changes in their own worlds. The good news is…it worked and still is working for every member of our family as they continue to understand these universal laws of nature and apply them to the individual circumstances in their lives. It will work for you too as you begin to dominate your thinking and speaking with positive thoughts and affirmations that line up with your goals and dreams. As you become more aware of your thoughts and rebuke those thoughts that simply aren’t true or don’t line up with your goals and dreams, you will start to dwell more on things you want to accomplish, how you are going to accomplish it, and who you want to become as you’re accomplishing. Then by law or principle, you will naturally gravitate towards these most dominant thoughts, and your words and actions will line up to your goals until they become realities in your life. Doesn’t it make sense to speak to yourself (and your counselors) what you expect to accomplish, what you’re going to do, and what you would like them to do to help you achieve your objectives? This one minor change will add up to very large deposits over time and continue to pay wonderful dividends now and for years to come.

Now that you know the universal law of Nature and Power regarding your dominant thoughts, you will be able to work with this important principle instead of against it. You will be much more aware of what you choose to think about and hear and also what you speak to yourself (self talk) and to those around you. Now that you know your mind works off of pictures formed from your thoughts and words, focus on training that teaches you to form clear and powerful mental pictures of your desired results for both yourself (and your counseling Team)… from your thoughts, words, and actions. Be determined in this crucial area of your thought life and work with the power of this universal law as it will help you to turn unproductive, unhealthy, and losing habits and patterns into healthy, productive, and winning patterns. Isn’t this what you really want for yourself and your future? I certainly do.
